Well I'm the guest blogger today. My Aunt Julie has been hanging in there as well as my Uncle Dave. They both have been at the hospital day an night since saturday. Roseann stayed with him one night at the hospital and my Aunt Julies and John her nephew has been with him since. She don't want to leave his side. My Uncle is in so much pain but I think because Aunt Julie promised she would take him home he is hanging in there. They Hospice is suppose to bring him home today. Lets pray he makes it.. That is where he wants to be is with family at home. Then I think our good Lord will take him home an we can then rejoice that he is where he is meant to be at this time in our lives. All we can do is pray and thank the good Lord we have had and still do have him in our lives. All we can do is enjoy every second that we have him with us. Uncle Al, Julie's mom an dad an I (Ellie) and more family will be coming in and spending Christmas with him. We love you all an Merry Christmas and have a safe an happy holiday.

Hi everyone. Sorry I haven't been able to blog in so long but Dave has been having a hard time. The last month has been crazy. Dave has been in terrible pain in his legs and back. We have been to his oncologist and she has given him new medicine. The new stuff puts him to sleep when he takes it correctly. He is on something for the pain from his chemo and that pretty much is under control. We have started his brain radiation and will be done this Friday. So far I think that has been ok. We had an MRI of his spine done last week and had GOOD NEWS that there was NO tumor on his spine but they can see the compression on his vertebrae and that is what is causing a lot of his pain. WE have been seeing an acupuncture DR. and he helped him a bit. We have seen the chiropractor twice this week and she is coming by the house tomorrow. She feels the drive to her office is adding to his pain.Dave has decided that the more pain medicine he takes the better he will be, something about if I can have 3 a day then why can't I take all 3 at the same time. ! This has really gotten out of control and I fear that next he will need to go through a detox program. I think you all know how hard headed Dave can be.!!! Dave is due to have another MRI done on Friday for his hip. Please keep us in your prayers. I know that with God in your life anything is possible but without him nothing is. Talk to you soon, Dave and Julie

This has been a busy couple of weeks. We got home from Philly with some wonderful news. What a great place. Any one who is walking in the shoes of cancer should go to the Cancer center. A great environment with great staff. I don't think we could say anything bad about our experience there. Dave has been in a great deal of pain. His knees and legs ache it seems almost all the time. He is on a ton of pain meds . We are trying to get it under control so maybe he can come off of some of it. He played 36 holes of golf last Sunday and then we went with Barbara and Dave to watch the giants and grab a bite to eat at Appelbies. Ron and Gary came over on Veterans day and helped with moving the hydrangea bushes and planted a beautiful red maple in the front yard. The guys stayed for supper and we had a great time visiting. We went to Lisa and Paul's house for dinner last Saturday and they came by ours this Saturday night. They also stopped by today to watch the Jets play. Like I said its been a couple of busy weeks. Thanks everyone for all your prayers and help. I know that it has made a huge difference in where we are standing now. I know that with God anything is possible and without him nothing is. Keep those prayers coming. Talk to you soon. Love, Julie and Dave

Well today is the day we leave for the Cancer center of America in Philly. We are excited to see what alternative treatments there are for us to turn to in case Dave's cancer comes back. I will blog when we get home the night of the 4th. Our last appointment for that day is 3;30. Thanks everyone for your prayers . I know there can't be anyone who has been more blessed then Dave and Me. We believe that prayer makes the miracles happen. Please everyone keep us in your prayers this week along with Benny Davis. Benny is the son of my ex assistant Head Teller that was hit by a car this week. He is in a comma with head trauma and numerous broken bones. Benny is just 18 years old with his whole life in front of him. I know that with God anything is possible and without him in your life nothing is. Talk to you when we get back. Love, Dave and Julie

Today was a Great day! We went to see the Dr. and got great news. The ct showed the following:The clavicle tumor was gone completely, the right lung shrunk down to a size they couldn't measure along with the liver and the large tumor that was 101/2 mm is now at 2/and1/2 and shows it being calcified. YEAH!!! This is the best we could have ever asked for. Thank you everyone for the prayers, visits and friendship. What a great life we are living in. I don't think anyone has ever been more blessed then Dave and me. Please keep those prayers coming because we believe that's what is making this all happen. Talk to you all soon. With Our love, Dave and Julie

Today was a great day. Sorry I haven't blogged but have been sick with this cold. Things are going fine. This is the down week after chemo. Dave is doing great but he seems to be having the blues. I know this is a lot for anyone to handle. We have scheduled a second consultation with The Cancer Center of America. They are located around the country but we are going to the east coast hospital in Philly. We head out on Nov 1. WE expect to be there for about 3 days. They advertise all the time on the TV that they do all kinds of alternative treatments as well as spiritual, diet etc. We having been doing some research on the Internet dealing with diet and it looks like we are going to be having a huge change in what our diet has been. All and All I need to say that Dave is doing great with all of this. We had some upsetting news this week and I would ask everyone to please pray for Ann and Dianna. I know that the prayers have really helped us through this long walk. Thanks again everyone. Remember with GOD anything is possible and without him nothing is. Talk to you tomorrow. Thought you would enjoy a new picture. This was taken on the 5th while the family was here. Everyone went down to the beach for a few hours. Dave was wearing a sombrero and his dew rag. Today was good quiet day. Dave is spending less of the day sleeping, today it was about 4 hours. Each day is getting less. He is eating small meals but a number of times during the day.I have noticed that he has some new hair growth on the back of his neck and on his chin. I know he has had a lot of radiation but I must say I don't think his skin is as bad as I thought it would be. It seems like a sunburn and it hasn't been blistering. He is sleeping as I am doing this but I know he told me to say Hi to everyone, that he loves you and thanks for all the prayers. I know he loves hearing from you all so give him a call,it really does lift up his spirits. Talk to you tomorrow night. Love, Dave and Julie

Message from Dave

Today was a good day. I want to thank everybody for your prayers, support and love.Keep those prayers coming. I saw the Dr's. today and everything is going good. My arm is healing fine with the help of antibiotics and the heat wraps. I was re tagged today and they started a new regiment of radiation. I saw the oncologist this afternoon and we discussed all the problems we have been having with their breakdown of communication in the office. The Dr. understood our position and gave us her cell phone # so we can call her when we have a need. She also told us that I might be doing 6 rounds of chemo but we will see after the 4th is done and how the test come back. The DR. also told us that she thinks we are going to be very happy with the outcome of the treatments. The positive energy is all around us. Thanks Everyone. Talk to you tomorrow,Dave and Julie

August 23

Hi everyone. Sorry I didn't blog last night.WE were watching the Giants lose to Chicago and I fell a sleep. I had over 2 hours of dental work done in the morning so I was pretty shot for the day. Dave had something going on with his right arm so Mary drove him to the oncologist office. it turned out to be an inflamed vein from having the IVs and chemo in the same arm, 7 days is just to long. I feel so bad for him, its one thing after another. Its been hard trying to keep his spirits up with all of this extra stuff happening. I keep trying though. Our friends Chris and Gail flew in from Arizona yesterday and Chris is going to be staying with us for most of the week. This is going to be good company for both of us. Dave has been complaining about the back pain again today. Ron was by this morning and reminded us that it could be from the shot he got last Saturday .He has been taking his pain bills and doing some sleeping. This was a tough week but I am thinking that next week has got to be better,!!! I keep thanking the Lord that he has the strength to keep dealing with all of this. Thanks everyone for the calls this weekend. Please keep those prayers comming. Till tomorrow. Love, Julie and Dave

Today was a good day. I stayed home from work because we just got him out of the hospital yesterday. We both slept in late.YEAH!!!!Dave is feeling dragged out but otherwise ok. He still has his appetite. He is eating smaller meals but more times a day. I think we both are beginning to feel overwhelmed by the last months news. We are trying to regroup and think positive things. We talk about keeping only positive thoughts in our minds and pray to God that he hears them. This has been a quiet day for both of us.. Thanks everyone for your prayers and support. Talk to you tomorrow. Love , Dave and Julie

IMPORTANT NEWS!

Dave had some chest pain around 9 last night ,right after doing the blog. We called the ambulance and they took him to Mather hospital. Mary drove over with me to keep me company. Thanks Mary. They thought he might be having a heart attack but they ruled that out. They took more x-rays and a cat scan. The good news is no heart attack, No blood clots in the lung and the TUMOR has SHRUNK. YEAH!!!!! They think he has pneumonia or a bad bronchial infection. I am heading out to the hospital at 2 and I don't think I will be back home before 12 tonight.I got in this morning at 5:30. I just talked to Dave and he is still in the emergency room(no beds are available) and his voice sounds strong. He was asking about eating. You have to love his appetite.I will blog again when I get home. Please keep us in your prayers today. Remember with God all things are possible. Talk to you all tonight. Love, Dave and Julie

Well sorry I didn't get to blog last night. We got a new computer for Dave yesterday and Steve was installing it for us. So now Dave can do email and everything!!!!Its been a couple of busy days with radiation and chemo.I took the day off yesterday and went with Ellie to take Dave. It turns out that they want to do something called coning , which is when they take another look to see if the tumor is shrinking and then change his radiation. It sounds like its a positive thought. Dave is having chemo at the Dr's. office in Patchogue . The office and nurses seem like great people. Dave had 2 bags of chemo yesterday and he also had radiation. They put him into a private room so you know he was like the MAN!!!!!He came home and had a burger and hot dog for supper!!!He is something else. Next thing we knew he was up dancing in the living room to the Blues Brothers!! You have to love his spirit. Ellie took him today and they did radiation and 1 bag of chemo. only a 3 hour day compared to a 6 hour day yesterday. They decided to retag him for his radiation. The plan is that he is going to have chemo tomorrow and a cat scan to check and change his dose and position of his radiation. He is feeling tired this evening but he is up watching TV talking on the phone. All and all it was a good day. Keep those prayers coming. Talk to you tomorrow. Dave and Julie

One of the highway guys stopped to visit him today over lunch. His spirit has been great. Dave told me he feels like his appetite is back because hes hungry and enjoying eating again. All good signs. Thanks to god this was another great day. Ron drove Dave to have his blood work done and get his shot. His count is up to 2.4 but no radiation for the rest of the week till its up about 9.I told Dave that I am going to have to be a real BITCH to get things done right. I still can't believe that the nurses wouldn't listen to him last week when he said he was suppose to get a shot.Dave saw another Dr. from the group today in regards to his ribs hurting so bad.His ribs have been hurting since they pulled his tooth last Friday. This Dr. told him to start living his life again, go play some golf. Talk about someone being happy!!!!!The Dr. told him that he has to stay out of the sun so when he is feeling up to it he should play early in the day or towards the late afternoon. Dave drove himself to have an x-ray done on his ribs. George came by and took Dave with him to a wake for their friend from the highway dept., Richy McCarrick, who passed away Sunday night. He went before 7 so he could get in before everyone else. I called the visiting Nurses this morning and they actually showed up this afternoon. We are both feeling tired this evening so we are heading to bed. Thanks again for the prayers, calls and visits.Talk to you tomorrow,

Julie and Dave

Today was a good day. I took Dave to get his shot this morning. The shot seems to have caused him some back pain. God knows he doesn't need any thing else right now. This was a quiet day and I think his mind was doing a whole lot of thinking. I keep telling him how lucky we are to still have him here with us.Dave keeps second guessing whether his chemo is working because his hair hasn't fallen out. Who would think you would be praying for your hair to fall out. This is one crazy roller coaster ride!!!Thanks everyone for the calls and friendship.I don't know how we would ever get through this without our families and friends. Please keep the prayers coming. Talk to you tomorrow. Julie
